Boom 2 megaboom app12/17/2022 ![]() ![]() They need an internet connection to operate so don’t work on Bluetooth. It has three mics built into it and works just like one of Google’s Nest or Amazon’s Echo speakers on wifi, answering questions, streaming and controlling music. The Roam also supports voice assistants from Google and Amazon’s Alexa, allowing you to swap between them. But it can also create an instant group with your nearest Sonos speakers or transfer music to or from them just by holding the play/pause button on the Roam. It can share music being streamed to it via Bluetooth with other speakers on your home wifi network. The Roam has a few tricks up its sleeve if you have other Sonos speakers. To use it outdoors you simply pair it with your phone via Bluetooth like a regular portable speaker. The speaker can also be controlled straight from the Spotify app or using AirPlay 2 on Apple devices. The Sonos app acts as a controller for playing music from practically every music streaming service available via wifi. You must set up the Roam on wifi using the Sonos app before you can use it as a Bluetooth speaker, but it only takes a couple of minutes. The British consumer testing organization, in a rather inexplicable twist, claims that the Boom 2 is both better sounding and easier to use than the MegaBoom, but we suspect this is due to the reviews being completed at different times (and by listeners judging on different standards?) - the ease of use is exactly the same for both. The American consumer testing organization preferred the sound of the MegaBoom, but other reviewers didn’t notice or note much of a difference all really liked both speakers. the UE Boom 2Ĭheck on AmazonThese two speakers sound similar because they share essentially the same design both have the ability to belt out 360-degree sound at volumes that are suitable for a small party outside, or filling a mid-size room. The UE Boom 2 is always much cheaper than its big sister, and we think it’s overall a better buy. Pricing for these speakers has gone up and down over the last few months, and on Amazon prices can be different for different colors. ![]() They both have exceptional two-year warranties, or twice that of most competitors’ warranties. They offer analogue inputs and can work great as speakerphones (though you’ll likely just use this feature on your phone instead). They each make use of Logitech’s apps for iOS and Android to form a stereo pair if you buy two of either one. ![]() Check on AmazonBoth of these speakers stand out for their durability and could even be dropped in the bathtub for a half hour and still be fine.
